So, How Does This Work?

How does this therapy thing work?

Well, there are a few steps. Don’t worry, they aren’t hard. The hardest part is deciding you’re ready.

When you decide that you want to try therapy, simply click the “request appointment” link below and schedule your FREE consultation call.

During the consultation call we can have a conversation to see if you and I will be a good fit for working together.

The consultation calls are usually about 20-45 minutes and if you have any questions during our conversation, feel free to ask them.

During the consultation call, we will set up your first session.  Sessions are 55 minutes and are usually scheduled weekly or every other week.

My office hours are:

  • Monday: 12-6
  • Tuesday: 12-6
  • Wednesday: office is closed in the winter
  • Thursday: 12-6
  • Friday: 12-6
  • Additional hours may be available by appointment

In the first session, we will get to work on your intake information and set goals for your therapy journey.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

I'm Not Sure

If you aren’t sure therapy is right for you at this time, email me anyway and I will help you answer your questions until you have all of the information that you need to make a confident decision.

How much will Therapy Services Cost me?

I get it. Your money needs to work for you and you need to be sure about getting what you pay for. This is one of the reasons that I offer Free Consultation Calls. I want you to feel good about how you are spending your money.

I am in-network with BCBS and BCBS Healthy Montana Kids, Allegiance/Cigna, Pacific Source and EBMS.

I have a limited number of appointments available for subscribers of United Health Care and Medicaid.

I am also happy to submit as "out of network" to your insurance company.

I charge $200 for the first "intake" appointment and $170 for 55 minute sessions thereafter. The sessions are paid weekly/by the session and do not have a set end date, although you can end therapy whenever you want.

How will I know if Therapy Services are Working?

You will often begin to see changes in yourself and how you see the world pretty early in our work together. The change could be subtle or more dramatic. It is normal to have “highs and lows” during the therapeutic process, with some sessions feeling more productive than others. Keep in mind that therapy will only work as well as you let it, and that you are responsible for the actual work. A therapist is only your guide and support, so come to the work that we do together with an open mind.

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference is that while we both care about you, friends and family don’t approach your problems with the professional insight and neutrality as someone who has the training and experience to have a more balanced picture of your situation. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others knowing too much. Finally, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.

How long will it take?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.

Will I have to learn to meditate or change my diet?

As a holistically oriented therapist I may talk about, or suggest, certain types of therapeutic interventions or research-based ideas that I think may help affect positive change in your situation. It is completely your choice if you want to try any of these interventions and I appreciate wherever your level of comfort is. There are many ways to address issues and promote change.

And one more thing…..

If you’re anything like me, you have questions and maybe your question wasn’t answered on the page already. Even after reading through the website, you may still be wondering a few things. Look no further, simply send me a message with your questions and I will do my best to get back to you in 24 hours or less!
